It's National Novel Writing Month again! It's a great time to share your NaNo experiences, whether it's you're first time or you're a 10 year veteran. Do you usually participate? Do you complete your goals? Do you struggle, or is this a cake walk? And, do you have secret tricks for crossing the finish line?
Most importantly, I'd like to discuss if you think NaNoWriMo is worth the effort. Do you feel accomplished after 50,000 words? Do you lament the sacrifices necessary to complete your goal?
So tell us all about your experiences, and if NaNo is worth the effort to you!

It is the art of written work, and is not confined to just published sources, though there are times that unpublished sources are exempt from the classification of literature. Let's start simple. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your Lit life.
I've only had work printed the 'old-fashioned' way in print magazines, both "glossy" and "pulp." I've never self-published and don't consider it. I never wrote a novella or novel and don't intend to. You can find a few of my short pieces (meaning fiction already published) here on dA. Besides journalism, one of the first printed was The Black Bag and I had to rewrite the end for dA because so many readers here didn't "get it." I took that to mean the story was too regional for readers around the world. I rewrote the last two paragraphs to include more description. The rest remains the same.

My territory is novels and short stories, yes. I wrote poems but they're quite amateur. I've had three stories published: The Week in A Cappella Zoo (also in print), Looking Down On Me in Silver Thought and before that in Soundzine, and Good Men Do Nothing online at Joyful! Online (defunct). I once self-publishedan early draft of a novel just to share it with friends and family in a physical incarnation.

Great critique and great writing go very closely together. All of us feature great writing— whether it's through fav'ing them, commenting on them or telling others about them. Critiques, however, are under-appreciated. Have we really featured them? Here are some wonderful critics. I will be showcasing one amazing critique and one wonderful piece of writing from each of them.
More attention should be given to critiques. Read them well and they are likely to be even more useful that guides; guides are often generalized so that they are useful to the majority. Referring to examples is one of the best ways to improve your own writing. No two pieces of writing are entirely different. Your horror masterpiece and that love poem critiqued may actually have the same area for improvement— word choice? clarity? A critique is always useful.

Jessica is mother to three young girls, and makes her living as a Communications Coordinator for a business consulting firm. She has published one poem and plans to pursue further publication of her poetry, fiction and nonfiction. A college business graduate and entrepreneur, she recently started doing freelance editing under her own company name, Jotcomm. She is currently completing a BA in English and plans to pursue a Masters in Professional Communications.

Why did you start writing?
The first story I remember writing was back in elementary school, and I won a local poetry contest the same year. I think I was nine or ten at the time. That was 20 years ago, and at this point I have no idea what prompted me to start! I do know that anything I've written has always started with a single, powerful image. We (the lit CVs) hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday with family and friends! The holiday season is always bustling fun, and this season was no exception. The literature community was busy with giving, celebrating, and loads of activities. I hope everyone is enjoying the new year because this rush of activity is continuing with a slew of new and renewed projects.

Flash Fiction Month: Support!Flash Fiction Month
The month of flash fiction writing began yesterday and already, many flash fiction stories have flooded deviantARt after the first day. It's amazing to see so many writers band together for a common goal. Challenging each other and themselves to write thirty-one stories under 1,000 words during the month of July. It is a great way to learn to write every day and an excellent challenge for any writer.
But therein lies the problem. It's a challenge; one that takes its toll on writers. Many deviants aren't used to writing every day, let alone focusing on thirty-one different stories rather than a single novel like in National Novel Writing Month.
